What would the publication of a new novel be without a contest?
Some authors offer trips to Paris or down the Amazon. But I always liked those Crackerjack boxes....
Which isn't to say that the prizes (25 winners! Count 'em! 25 guys and 25 women!) aren't classy.
They're not only classy, they are unique.
Enter the contest based on my new novel, Still Summer and win a specially commissioned men’s cologne made by fragrance creator ZAJA or a pair of handcrafted Message-In-A-Bottle earrings, handcrafted by yours truly!
Tell me, in two lines, a G-rated version of the story of your worst vacation incident ever. Send it as a MySpace message on the MySpace page stillsummerbook or deepend_author, or to my website by writing Jackie@jackiemitchard.com. Just write 'WORST VACATION CONTEST' in the subject line so it doesn't get lost. If you win, we'll contact you.
The entries will be judged in a few weeks.
The novel now is on sale at any book store, online at Amazon.com, Borders and Barnes and Noble, as well as on my website www.jackiemitchard.com.
Still Summer cologne -- according to its creator -- is a warm amber scent mixed with chilled sudachi, ginger pepper cocktail, and raindrop accord, all poured onto crisp cedar leaves, sage, black basil, warmed with notes of Brazilian redwood and patchouli. Like all ZAJA Natural Handmade Confections, it was mixed from cruelty-free ingredients and can last up to eight hours.
ZAJA has more than a thousand handmade colognes, perfumes, lotions, body washes, solid fragrances, soaps, and much more! Over 1000 fragrances in stock and ready to ship (at www.etsy.com) but can do custom orders via email at info@zajanatural.com.
With my friend, Pamela, I created the Still Summer earrings – two tiny glass bottles that hang from a silver wire. Each bottle contains a message. For example, one reads, “Help is on the Way!’ There’s also a minute amount of genuine tropical sand and a miniature shell. An artisan made the corked bottles for us; but we created the concept and made the earrings.
We wear them all the time.
You can see how they look on my (handsome) son and his (beautiful) friend.
So send me a couple of lines. And if you’re a couple, a man AND a woman, and want to enter as two, the guy has to do his own writing!
Yours,
Jacquelyn Mitchard

don't know how encouraging it is to new writers to hear that accomplished, multi-published writers have (and maybe still do) fears about their writing. About becoming the writer they know they can be. That fear comes from within, but it is stoked by the glazed-over look you get when you tell people, "I'm writing a novel," or "Yes, I'm a writer." That half-smile, crinkled-forehead, "did she just say she's writing something or other," look --- I know you've seen it. Unless you're on the bestseller list, you can't REALLY be a writer.
You get my point. It's authors, writers like you, who keep us inspired to believe.
Enough said. It's time to get back to work on my novel.
Did I mention that I was a writer?

Hi Jackie! I realized that I never came by to thank you for choosing my company to make the cologne for you. It was a wonderful experience and I am very grateful!
